Four men have been charged in connection with an armed robbery at a jewelry store earlier this year in Maywood, officials from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office said Friday.
Beiker A. Aguilera Areyan, 23, of East Elmhurst, N.Y., Daniel A. Rivas-Alvarado, 23, of New York, N.Y., Yeison J. Amarante Bolivar, 25, of Miami, and Jhon C. Requena Yerena, 26, of the Bronx, N.Y., were arrested after a months-long investigation, authorities said.
Aguilera Areyan, Amarante Bolivar and Rquena Yerena were all charged with two counts of first-degree armed robbery and second-degree counts of conspiracy to commit robbery and weapons offenses, officials said.
Rivas-Alvarado was charged with two counts of first-degree armed robbery and second-degree counts of conspiracy to commit armed robbery, weapons offenses and two counts of fourth-degree aggravated assault.
On April 23, 2024, Maywood police and neighboring police departments responded to a jewelry store on West Pleasant Avenue at about 11:15 a.m.
The initial investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office determined that two male suspects entered the store and brandished firearms, pointing them at an employee and a customer, officials said.
One of the suspects grabbed the employee, and a brief struggle ensued before both suspects fled the scene, leaving behind duct tape and zip ties, according to authorities.
Investigators determined that additional suspects were involved in planning and carrying out the robbery, authorities said.
Two mopeds and a vehicle were used in the robbery to travel to and from the scene, authorities said.
On June 19, Rivas-Alvarado and Aguilera Areyan were located and arrested in North Bergen by detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, officials said.
On Sept. 5, Amarante Bolivar was located and arrested in Miami by Miami police officers and a watch worth $1 million stolen from Beverly Hills was recovered, authorities said. Police also recovered a stolen rife and handgun.
On Oct. 4, Requena Yerena was located and arrested in New York City, officials said. All four men are being held pending court proceedings.
Attorneys for the men could not be immediately reached for comment Friday.
